Pinoy nurses, caregivers undergo Japanese language training

Chargés d’affaires Tetsuro Amano with the 7th Batch of JPEPA candidate nurses, caregivers

MANILA – Over 300 Filipino nurses and caregivers will undergo six-months of Japanese language training in preparation for their deployment to Japan next year.

The group is from the 7th batch of Candidate Nurses and Caregivers under the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA).

“First of all, I would like to congratulate you, the 7th Batch of JPEPA nurses and careworkers candidates, who have successfully passed the selection and matching process. More than 300 of you comprise the 7th batch. This is more than a 60% increase from last year. This eloquently signifies the increasing demand and expectation for Filipino nurses and careworkers in Japan,” said Charge d’affaires to the Philippines Tetsuro Amano.

Amano attended Wednesday’s opening ceremony of the Preparatory Japanese Language Training for Candidate Nurses and Caregivers bound for Japan at the TESDA head office in Taguig City.

Of the 306 Filipino candidates, 203 will take the training at TESDA’s Language Skills Institute while the remaining 103 will train at the Nihongo Center Foundation, Inc.

“I cannot emphasize enough the importance of learning the Japanese language. Its proficiency will prove to be essential for your work and life in Japan as well as your passing the national examination,” Amano said.

He encouraged members of the 7th batch to exert all efforts in studying the language.

“Majority of your fellow Filipino candidates who came before you reached the equivalent of N4 Level Proficiency, which is equivalent to upper-elementary Japanese language level, after six months of training. I am sure that this task, however daunting it may seem, is within your reach,” he said.

The latest batch will depart for Japan in June 2015 and undergo another six months of Japanese language training there.
