A wider cooperation in education between Malaysia and Japan on the card

TOKYO: The quality of Malaysian kindergartens, schools and institute of higher learnings may soon benefit from some Japanese touch following an agreement for a wider cooperation in education between both countries.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the memorandum of cooperation on the matter, signed by Japan and Malaysia today here, will enable a more extensive exchanges of ideas and technical know-how in education between the countries.

‘It’s a continuation of existing cooperation between us and the Japanese, which now enable us to explore an even wider area, including pre-school education,” he said.

Muhyiddin, who is also the education minister said among the expertise in educational subject matters which could be gleaned from the Japanese education system include those in science, technology and mathematics.

Muhyiddin had also today held a bilateral meeting with education, culture, sports, science and technology minister Hakubun Shimomura.

He said the closer cooperation in education with Japan will also among others help the government’s effort to improve the international ranking of the country’s universities to the same level of those in developed countries.

On the overall outcome of his three-day visit to Japan which ends today, Muhyiddin said it was a fruitful trip as other than improving cooperation in education, the Japanese government had also shown keen interest to assist Malaysia in matters such as disaster management and upgrade of its transport system, specifically the implementation of high speed train project between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
